The town of Emerald Isle is located in southwestern Carteret County at the end of Bogue Banks, an island separated from mainland North Carolina by Bogue Inlet. The town’s pristine shoreline extends 12 miles, with the Atlantic Ocean to the south and Bogue Sound to the north.
The island is primarily residential, with large and smaller homes, duplexes and condominiums, as well as one oceanfront hotel. The community’s family-oriented atmosphere and a lack of commercial development has preserved the island’s natural beauty. The beaches are a favorite nesting spot for sea turtles, which can be seen at many different points around the island.
